简介
英国水星音乐奖（Mercury Prize）是英国唱片业协会和英国唱片商公会主办在英国的音乐类奖项，创办于1992年。
英国水星音乐奖设置1个奖项，由英国及爱尔兰的音乐家、音乐企业高层、记者等唱片工业人士组成评审团，评选范围为相邻两届英国水星音乐奖期间由英国和爱尔兰艺人发行 的音乐专辑。入围及获奖名单由评审团投票决定。
英国水星音乐奖每年举办一次，一般于每年7月公布入围作品，每年9月举行颁奖典礼 。

历史沿革
该奖项最初由Cable & Wireless的旗下品牌Mercury Communications 赞助，该奖项由此得名。后来由Technics（1998 年至 2001 年）、Panasonic（2002 年和 2003 年）、Nationwide Building Society（2004 年至 2008 年）和 Barclaycard（2009-14 年）赞助。
1998年起，组委会把入围作品数从10个增加到12个。
2015年的奖项由 BBC 赞助；在 2016 年，水星音乐奖宣布与现代汽车达成了一项为期三年的赞助协议。
评选规则
1. 报名→审查：
任何英国或爱尔兰的音乐家，或成员超过一般以上为英国或爱尔兰国籍的人，都可以申请报名水星音乐奖。
2. 候选→提名：
十二张提交的专辑入围该奖项，入围的准则是音乐水准，而不是名气和销量。入围名单由独立的音乐家、音乐主持人、音乐制作人、音乐记者、节日组织者以及英国和爱尔兰音乐行业的其他人士组成的小组选出。
该奖项对所有类型的音乐开放，包括流行、摇滚、民谣、都市、金属、舞曲、爵士、蓝调、电子和古典音乐。
3. 获奖→公布：
从提名名单公布，到颁奖礼举办的这段时间，评委会对获取提名的单位继续进行研究，挑选出自己心中的最佳。
